Cationic Accelerator:

The demand for radiation cured products in the U.S. is projected to increase at a rate between 8-10% per year reaching a $1.5-1.8 billion market value. The growth of radiation cured products is prompted by the mounting pressures for environmental concerns in the emissions of volatile organic compounds and other hazardous air pollutants in coatings and inks.

The traditional UV curing uses photo-initiator to absorb the light energy and generate the free radicals. However, there are several disadvantages of using such as system such as shrinkage, application restricted to thin film layer and the generation of ozone. Cationic curing is a potential alternate. However, cationic curing system is slow, albeit less shrinkage, not to mention the high cost of the photo-initiator.
